Safer Recruitment and Safeguarding Learners in the Learning and Skills Sector
These training courses and the learning materials have been designed and developed by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), and will be delivered by LSIS trained facilitator.
The materials are continually updated by LSIS and the quality of the delivery is quality assured by LSIS observers.
LSIS Certificate of attendance will be issued to all participants.
Workshop S:
Safeguarding in the Learning and Skills Sector
6 hours CPD. Can be delivered in combination of 2 hour modules.
Target Audience:
All organisations delivering education and training directly funded by government programmes.
Overview of the course:
This workshop is in 4 sections: The Context; A safer Environment; The New Legislation (October 2009); Development and Support.
It provides an introduction to safeguarding and what providers in the learning and skills sector should have in place. It covers an overview of what we mean by safeguarding, who we are safeguarding and what staff should do if they have any concerns.
It will also consider how to involve staff and learners in developing the safeguarding agenda. There will be brief coverage of safer recruitment and the Vetting and Barring Scheme. The workshop will also consider what Ofsted will be looking for.

Safer Staff Recruitment and Safeguarding in the Learning and Skills Sector
6 hours CPD. Can be delivered in separate modules.
Target Audience:
Line managers, HR staff, Governors, Trade Union Representatives, and anyone directly involved with any aspect of Staff Recruitment.
Overview of the course:
This workshop is designed for people who need a more detailed knowledge and understanding of how to implement safer recruitment practices in their organisation, including the ISA Vetting and Barring Scheme.
The workshop will include an overview of safeguarding but will focus on safer recruitment, so participants should have a reasonable knowledge of safeguarding before attending.
LSIS certificates of attendance will be issued to all participants in either of the above workshops, and all participants will be given the opportunity to complete an on-line assessment following the training. On achieving the required standard LSIS certificates of achievement will be issued.
